Animal housing

 

The Cyrcé platform animal house is an A2 type animal house with a surface area of ​​approximately 100m2. Commissioned in 2007, it can accommodate up to 800 mice and 60 rats. The animal house houses rodents dedicated to the protocols carried out by the Department on the adjacent imaging platform, but it can also accommodate animals as part of scientific collaborations or as a service.

The animal house consists of:

  • 2 accommodation rooms, equipped with conventional racks and ventilated racks to accommodate genetically modified animals or those carrying class 2 viruses
  • 1 quarantine room equipped with a stand-alone 3-compartment cabinet.
  • 1 laundry room equipped with a cage washer and a double-entry autoclave.
  • 1 room for storing clean equipment.
  • 1 animal entry airlock.
  • 1 waste exit airlock.
  • 1 changing room with shower.
  • A PSM Class 2 emptying hood and changing hood allow the safe handling of contaminated animals and ensure the protection of rodents during cage changes.
  • An annex to the animal house is located on the Experimental Radiobiology Platform at Cyrcée (PRECy), in the form of a stand-alone cabinet, which accommodates animals as part of the in vivo irradiation protocol.

SBEA

The SBEA is a mandatory regulatory structure for any establishment using animals for scientific purposes (European Directive 2010/63/EU and decree 2013-118 (Art. R. 214-103 of the Rural Code))

Composition:

  • the Animal Welfare Manager,
  • a designer,
  • le zootechnicien,
  • the pet store’s reference veterinarian.

Role:

  • Advise staff on animal care,
  • Advise on the application of the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine),
  • Establish and review internal operating procedures,
  • Monitor the progress and results of projects,
  • Interact with project managers (project modifications),
  • Provide advice on animal placement programs.

How:

  • Monitoring of projects during their implementation,
  • Monitoring and management of unexpected events affecting the animal,
  • Visit to animal housing,
  • Monitoring and evaluation of projects (modification, monitoring of strict procedures),
    Quarterly meetings,
  • Archived reports and opinions (5 years)
